How to move your meter or have gas pipework altered

If you plan to move or relocate your natural gas meter or need to alter your gas service pipe please read our alterations and relocations brochure (PDF 1.25MB) or link to the alterations and relocations HTML Version (16KB) .

Most common reasons for alterations to gas services

  • Home insulation
  • Building a porch
  • Widening driveways
  • Home extensions
  • Installing a downstairs toilet
  • Garage conversions

If any of the above involve altering the location of your meter, it is important that you contact us before beginning the work.  Check the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) website to see if any grant is available for this work.

How to organise having your meter moved or gas service pipe altered

  • Call 1850 200 694 or email networksinfo@gasnetworks.ie for a Gas Networks Ireland estimator to come to your premises and assess what work will be required.
  • The estimator will give you a quote.
  • Payment must be received before work begins. (You can pay by calling our customer service team on 1850 200 694 or posting a cheque using the pre-paid envelope provided.)
  • We will then arrange an appointment with you to begin works.
  • Normally, the work will be carried out in one day, including reconnecting the meter, (provided the internal work has been completed by a Registered Gas Installer (RGI) and they provide a certificate of conformance.)

What Gas Networks Ireland will do

We will alter all pipework up to and including the meter, however all internal pipework is the responsibility of the homeowner.

You must contact an RGI to carry out these works. A list of RGIs is available at the Registered Gas Installers of Ireland website or by calling RGII at 1850 45 44 54.
