Level 5 restrictions

In line with the Government’s Plan for Living with COVID-19 and the introduction of Level 5 public health restrictions in all counties, Gas Networks Ireland has temporarily limited some of its activities throughout the country.

The restrictions will not however impact the continued safe operation of the gas network, gas emergency work or essential support for vulnerable customers.

Whilst we will continue to read outdoor meters, all indoor meter reading continues to be suspended. Works requiring entry into occupied properties, such as meter unlocks and meter exchanges will continue, however due to the restrictions some appointments may need to be rescheduled and we will contact the customers in question.

Furthermore, as instructed by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) on Friday October 24th, Gas Networks Ireland will not currently accept any requests from gas suppliers to undertake a gas disconnection for non-payment of account.

All of Gas Networks Ireland’s construction and maintenance works will continue with COVID-19 safety measures in place however some non-essential activities involving larger numbers of personnel may be deferred.

New domestic customers can continue to complete the online connection process at www.gasnetworks.ie/home/get-connected/connect-now/ or contact our dedicated call centre on 1800 50 40 60.  However, please note that new enquiries received from midnight on Tuesday October 21st that require a staff member to visit a home will not be progressed until restrictions are lifted.

As per the Government’s guidelines, these measures are currently in place until Tuesday December 1st 2020.

Gas Networks Ireland’s Head of Commercial and Corporate Affairs, Ian O’Flynn, said:
"This decision will not impact on customers’ gas supply, network safety, or our ability to respond to emergencies. We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and we will resume all activities once the government guidelines allow.”

“The health and safety of our staff and customers remains our primary concern and we hope that everyone stays safe and in good health during these difficult times.”

Gas Networks Ireland is advising customers who would like to submit a meter reading to do so online at www.gasnetworks.ie/meter or by phoning its Dial-A-Read line on 1800 427 732.

Gas Networks Ireland emergency services continue to operate as normal. If you smell gas at home or on the street, please call 1800 20 50 50 immediately.
