Level 5 restrictions updated January

In line with the Government’s Plan for Living with COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place to safeguard public health, Gas Networks Ireland continues to temporarily limit some of its activities throughout the country.

The restrictions will not however impact the continued safe operation of the gas network, gas emergency work or essential support for vulnerable customers.

Gas Networks Ireland has assessed its planned construction and maintenance works and has deferred all non-essential activities until restrictions are eased. Essential works will continue with COVID-19 safety measures in place.

Whilst we will continue to read outdoor meters, all indoor meter reading continues to be suspended. Works requiring entry into occupied properties, such as meter unlocks and meter exchanges also continue where essential, however due to the restrictions some appointments may need to be rescheduled and we will contact the customers in question.

New customers can continue to complete the online connection process at www.gasnetworks.ie or by contacting our dedicated call centre on 1800 50 40 60. However, please note that new enquiries that require a staff member to enter an occupied premises will not be progressed until restrictions are lifted.

Gas Networks Ireland’s Head of Commercial and Corporate Affairs, Ian O’Flynn, said:

"These restrictions will not impact on customers’ gas supply, network safety, or our ability to respond to emergencies. We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time. We will resume all activities once the government guidelines allow.

“We would also like to reassure our customers that Ireland’s gas supply is secure and that irrespective of which energy provider you use, your gas supply will continue in the weeks and months ahead.

“Ireland’s gas network is one of safest and most modern gas networks in the world, and we have robust and tested procedures in place to maintain security of gas supply to our customers and to ensure that staff and customer welfare is protected.

“The health and safety of our staff and customers remains our primary concern and we hope that everyone stays safe and in good health during these difficult times.”

Gas Networks Ireland is advising customers who would like to submit a meter reading to do so online at www.gasnetworks.ie/meter or by phoning its Dial-A-Read line on 1800 427 732.
