Gas Networks Ireland suspends meter readings

Gas Networks Ireland, the owner and operator of Ireland’s gas transmission and distribution network, today announced the suspension of all non-essential work, including meter readings.

In line with the new guidelines issued by the Government on Saturday March 28th, Gas Networks Ireland will cease all work other than that deemed essential for the continued operation of the gas network, emergency gas work, emergency meter unlocking, essential support for vulnerable customers and works in support of other services and industries deemed essential by the Government in the current crisis.

Denis O’Sullivan, Managing Director, Gas Networks Ireland said,

"We are coordinating closely with Government to ensure we do what we can to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

"This decision will not impact on our nation’s gas supply, nor on our ability to respond to emergency scenarios or serve the needs of vulnerable customers.

"We have robust and tested procedures in place to maintain security of gas supply to our customers and essential activities will continue."

Gas Networks Ireland is advising customers who would like to submit a meter reading to do so online at www.gasnetworks.ie/meter or by phoning its Dial-A-Read line on 1800 427 732.

All Gas Networks Ireland emergency services continue to operate as normal.  If you smell gas at home or on the street, please call 1800 20 50 50 immediately.
