Gas Networks Ireland recommences all outdoor meter and project works
Gas Networks Ireland last week recommenced all outdoor activities and new connections, in line with Phase Three of the Government’s ‘Roadmap for Opening Society and Business’.
All external installations, new connections, meter readings, replacements and unlocks have recommenced, as well as road reinstatements, infrastructure improvement and maintenance projects, and construction projects including Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations.
Internal work relating to essential maintenance and proactive safety programmes has also recommenced.
Work requiring entry into occupied properties will not recommence until Phase Four, which is currently expected to commence on July 20th, unless it is deemed essential for the continued operation of the gas network, emergency gas work, emergency meter unlocking, essential support for vulnerable customers or support of other services and industries deemed essential by the Government.
Head of Commercial and Corporate Affairs, Ian O’Flynn, said Gas Networks Ireland was happy to be increasingly returning to normal operations and that health and safety remains a foremost priority.
"We are very pleased to recommence all outdoor activities that do not require entry to properties. We thank all our customers for their patience during the lockdown and look forward to connecting hundreds of new customers waiting to join the 700,000 Irish homes and businesses already enjoying the benefits of natural gases," Mr O’Flynn said.
"We have continued to prioritise essential work since Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were introduced while following government guidelines. Our focus is on ensuring that all gas related work undertaken at each phase of the reopening roadmap is done safely while protecting the health and safety of our staff, suppliers, customers and the general public."
Gas Networks Ireland is reminding customers who would like to submit a meter reading to do so online at www.gasnetworks.ie/meter or by phoning its Dial-A-Read line on 1800 427 732.
All Gas Networks Ireland emergency services continue to operate as normal. If you smell gas at home or on the street, please call 1800 20 50 50 immediately.
