Gas Networks Ireland announces new appointments to Executive and Senior leadership team

Gas Networks Ireland is delighted to announce the formal appointment of two new directors to the executive team, Bobby Gleeson as Chief Operations Officer and Brian Sheehan as Director of Assets & Infrastructure. Emer Walsh has also joined the senior leadership team having been promoted to Chief Legal Officer

Speaking about the appointments, Gas Networks Ireland’s CEO, Cathal Marley said: “As custodians of Ireland’s €2.8bn national asset, our vision is to be at the heart of Ireland’s clean energy future and continue to decarbonise the 14,725km gas network. I am delighted to have Bobby, Brian and Emer on our senior leadership team - each of whom will play a key role in delivering on the organisation’s strategy to deliver a zero-carbon energy future for Ireland.

Bobby, Brian and Emer bring a wealth of experience to the roles and our organisation.

Bobby has over 25 years of experience in the energy and utilities industries delivering innovation through high performance and attention to customer and stakeholder needs. Prior to being appointed to his current role, Bobby held several senior positions within Gas Networks Ireland including Head of Asset Delivery, Head of Asset Management and Head of Health, Safety & Quality (HSQ). Bobby holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick.

As Chief Operations Officer, he is responsible for the overall operation of the gas network and ensuring a safe, stable continuity of gas supply to the island of Ireland.

Brian has over 25 years' experience in the utility sector. Prior to being appointed to his current role, Brian held various senior positions within the organisation including Head of Asset Management. Most recently, Brian worked in senior roles at Ervia and was Infrastructure Delivery Director at Uisce Éireann. Brian holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Limerick and is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.

Brian, as Director of Assets & Infrastructure, is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the national gas network’s assets and infrastructure, facilitating a cleaner energy future.

Emer has held the position of Head of Legal at Gas Networks Ireland and holds a degree in Law and French from UCC and a solicitor's practising certificate with the Law Society of Ireland.

As Chief Legal Officer, Emer is responsible for the leadership and direction of all legal, corporate governance and data protection activities across Gas Networks Ireland, playing a key role in delivering on the organisation’s strategy to transition to a low carbon energy network.
