We attend a number of events throughout the year to promote the understanding and uptake of renewable gas.
Gas Networks Ireland’s participation at and sponsorship of the ‘Energy in Agriculture’ farming event held in Gurteen Agricultural College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary on August 23rd was deemed “a huge success” by the event organisers.
There was significant interest in biogas from farmers and developers. This was especially evident during the Anaerobic Digestion (AD) demonstration, held at the Gas Networks Ireland exhibition stand. Our biogas team was assisted by the Claremorris & Western District Energy Co-op and the Renewable Gas Forum. Tipperary County Council, who organised the event, gave special thanks to Gas Networks Ireland for “their excellent AD demonstration” and for their co-sponsorship of the event.
Gas Networks Ireland arranged a three day renewable gas study trip to the Netherlands 24th-26th August hosted by DNVGL, formerly KEMA who were the gas research and development arm of the Dutch transmission operator, Gasunie. The study trip included Gas Networks Ireland representatives as well as participants from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, Teagasc, and members of the Renewable Gas Forum.
The study tour included site visits to a commercial demonstration “Power to Gas” facility in Rozenburg, a biomethane injection facility in Zwolle and a pilot scale biomass “Torrgas” gasification plant in the DNVGL’s testing laboratory in Groningen. A full day workshop on “Biomethane strategies for utilisation, grid injection and gas quality measurement” proved informative on the operational experience of gas producers and gas system operators in Germany, France, UK and Netherlands.
