Gas demand dips in April but remains dominant electricity source with similar trends forecast for summer season
Gas Networks Ireland’s latest gas demand statement shows that while overall gas demand fell by 12 per cent in April 2025 compared to March, gas continued to play a central role in electricity generation - producing 42 per cent of Ireland’s power.

Dublin conviction for Gas Tampering
Gas Networks Ireland has welcomed the verdict in a case relating to unlawful meter interference and dishonest use of gas at a property in Coultry Drive, Ballymun, Dublin 9. The court heard that Gas Networks Ireland had carried out an investigation at the property in November 2024 and found the gas supply had been unlawfully tampered with.

EU biomethane potential twenty times Ireland’s gas demand as Gas Networks Ireland leads on major study
Gas Networks Ireland’s role in biomethane took centre stage in Brussels on Wednesday, as Padraig Fleming, Biomethane Programme Manager with Ireland’s national gas utility and co-chair of the Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) Biomethane Working Group, presented an EU wide study on the role of biomethane in decarbonising the European energy system.
