Gas Vehicle Grant Scheme Open for Applications
The GRAZE CNG Vehicle Grant Scheme has been created to assist Irish fleet operators and hauliers in funding the transition to cleaner gas vehicles. Switching from diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG) reduces carbon emissions by up to 20% while switching to renewable bioCNG reduces carbon emissions of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) by up to 90%.
The scheme will support the purchase of up to 75 new, gas vehicles, which will support the decarbonisation of Ireland’s transport sector and provide an affordable, proven and viable alternative to diesel for Irish fleet operators. The increased use of CNG and bioCNG commercial vehicles by Irish fleet operators will support Gas Networks Ireland in its continued development of the national refuelling network and facilitate a new generation of cleaner gas vehicles operating on Irish roads.
The fund is supported by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) under the GRAZE project fund.

Moving to bioCNG today is a sustainable, long-term choice for fleet operators. BioCNG is a cleaner, affordable and proven fuel choice that has the potential to support the decarbonisation of the Irish transport sector. Read our case study to learn more about the benefits of gas in transport from the Irish fleet operators who have invested in this proven and reliable technology.
With stations strategically located in Cavan, Dublin, Kildare, Limerick, and Tipperary, this demonstrates our commitment to enable new cleaner transport corridors for Irish freight operators and their customers.

GRAZE Gas Project
The GRAZE (Green Renewable Agricultural Zero Emissions) Gas Project is led by Gas Networks Ireland and is supported by the Department of Climate, Environment and Energy (DCEE) Climate Action Fund, as part of the Government’s national energy security framework. The purpose of the project is to show how Ireland can diversify its gas supplies by speeding up the roll-out of renewable gases like biomethane.
Project Deliverables
- Vehicle fund for compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks
- Development of a central grid injection (CGI) facility near Mitchelstown in Co. Cork
- Transportation of renewable gas from anaerobic digestors to the CGI facility
- Two compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling stations
- The fund is supported by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) under the GRAZE project fund.
