The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy and almost 50% of the country’s electricity generation.
Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045. Its “Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network” envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.

The Role:
The Commercial function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for ensuring the business remains commercially focused through its customer and marketing strategy, large customer accounts, managing the relationship with the CRU and other parties, shipper services and tariff setting and price reviews.
The Trading & Settlements team within the Commercial Department is responsible for the production of monthly billing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete the end-to-end process of monthly Distribution and Transmission Regulated Billing including data validation, invoice generation and publishing of over 100 invoices to 31 Shippers, with an approx. value of €600m per annum. Investigate and resolve billing queries for 31 Shippers and assist with the onboarding of new Shippers.
Oversee the monthly commercial contracts billing including PTL, IOM & Corrib with a combined yearly value of approx. €40mil.
Prepare Ad hoc Adjustments and Manual Invoicing monthly as required by the business.
- Validate, confirm, and reconcile monthly balancing gas and Shrinkage trades. Ensuring compliance with Trading Platform Availability Contracts whilst settling circa 40 invoices with a value of approx. €40-50m per annum.
Lead the annual Audit of the Disbursements account with external auditors and complete the cashout to 31 Shippers within the agreed period.
Complete monthly Disbursements Cashout to 31 Shippers, ensuring completed within the agreed period regulated by the code mod forum with values ranging from €500k to €3m each month.
Assist with the Financial Audit, providing detailed information about revenue of €600m pa for GNI.
Overall responsibility for the completion of the Annual FAR Cashout process. Ensuring it is completed accurately and compliant with internal controls. Complete up to ninety transactions on Oracle and create payment instructions for 13 Shippers. Working closely with the business for PD03 approval and with bank payments team for re completion of payments to Shippers.
Update systems with tariff data to ensure everything is ready for the start of the New Year. Update Shipper handbook and publish it to 31 Shippers ahead of New Gas Year.
Develop, test, implement and maintain resilient Contingency Invoicing Billing Solution to ensure continuity of billing operations and revenue collections in the event of a cyber incident.
Coordinate and support the development and implementation of a CNG O&M billing solution to support anticipated growth in the area. Issue monthly invoices in a timely manner to these customers with a current estimated value of O&M charges yearly of approx. €500k.Organise monthly meetings with revenue and commercial teams to ensure all revenues are captured and any new sites are set up correctly.
Overall responsibility for the invoicing process of LNCA’s ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely issuance. Work closely with the commercial team to make sure all invoices align with contractual agreements. Working with the tax team to ensure correct tax treatment for each invoice and with the finance team to ensure that all transactions are reported correctly on the General Ledger.
Preparing various reports for submission to the CRU (Regulator) and internal departments
Maintain financial governance in all areas of the T&S Role by following and updating processes and controls
Other duties may be assigned from time to time
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Third level degree in a Business, Finance, or other similar discipline with at 3-5 years relevant industry experience
Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others
Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementing solutions
Have excellent analytical skills and be able to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
Ability to set up ongoing procedures to collect and review information as needed
Proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
Ability to set own high standards of performance and delivering desired results
