Applications now being accepted for positions across engineering, technology, data and other STEM disciplines

Marian Harkin, Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science announced that Gas Networks Ireland is now accepting applications for its 2027 Graduate Programme, offering paid positions to recent and prospective graduates or postgraduates from a range of STEM disciplines.

Applications will remain open until Friday, 16 October 2026, with successful candidates joining Gas Networks Ireland on a full-time, two-year programme beginning in October 2027.

The programme is open to candidates from a broad range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) backgrounds. Candidates must be recent or prospective graduates, including postgraduates, in a relevant STEM discipline and have a Graduate or Postgraduate qualification with a minimum Level 8, 2:2. Candidates must also be fully eligible to work in Ireland for the duration of the programme.

The programme aims to develop future leaders in Ireland’s energy and utility sector by building technical, leadership and communication skills through hands-on project experience. Participants will also benefit from structured training, mentoring, and wellbeing support. One of the programme’s standout features is the wide-ranging exposure that participants get to Gas Networks Ireland’s spread of activities. Graduates rotate across different departments and projects, gaining exposure to different areas.

Sophie Gray, who joined Gas Networks Ireland last year on the Graduate Programme, said that it was the opportunity to contribute to Ireland’s energy transition that attracted her to the organisation. Originally from Ballinlough in Cork, Sophie studied Zoology at Trinity College Dublin before joining Gas Networks Ireland.

Current Graduate Programme Participant Sophie Gray said:

I chose the Graduate Programme because it offered structured career development, practical experience, formal training and exposure to different areas of the business early in my career. I have always been interested in sustainability and the environment, but working at Gas Networks Ireland has shown me that I can build a career focused on decarbonisation and the energy transition.

My experience so far has been better than I could ever have imagined. I’ve learned a huge amount and developed practical skills. There is an open-door policy here, and you can approach anyone with questions or concerns. Everyone is incredibly supportive. After a year on the programme, I can see a real difference in my confidence and capability, and it’s helping me to understand where I would like my career to go.
