Record turnout for Gas Networks Ireland-sponsored Cork BHAA 5km road race

Hannah Steeds and Vivian Foley claimed victory at the Gas Networks Ireland sponsored Cork BHAA 5KM road race on Wednesday 22nd July, as hundreds of runners took to the Blackrock and Mahon Greenway for one of Cork’s most popular workplace sporting events.

A record-breaking number of 780 participants completed the popular 5km course, which started on the Blackrock to Mahon Greenway and finished at Blackrock Castle. The annual event continues to be a highlight of the Cork BHAA race calendar, promoting health, wellbeing, and community spirit among workplaces across the region.

In the women's category, Hannah Steeds claimed top honours in 16:50 ahead of Orla Drumm in 17:37 while Andrea Aza Villamor secured third place, finishing in  17:46.

In the men's race, Vivian Foley crossed the finish line first in a time of 15:54 followed by Mark McGarry in 16:21 with Padraig Sheahan taking third place in 16:28.

In the Visually Impaired Category Ross Gallagher claimed the prize. His guide runner was Patrick Murphy. 

In the Wheelchair Category the winner was Jerry Forde.

The Business Houses Athletic Association (BHAA) is a voluntary organisation that promotes physical activity, teamwork and camaraderie by encouraging work colleagues to train and compete together through a series of road races held throughout the year.

Gas Networks Ireland has proudly sponsored the Cork BHAA 5km road race since 2012. The annual event reflects the company's ongoing commitment to supporting employee wellbeing, healthy lifestyles and stronger community connections
