When planning an excavation, use 1:1000 scale maps for the level of detail required at the proposed location, in preference to 1:2500 or 1:5000. Low-scale maps (i.e. 1:2500 and 1:5000) may not give an appropriate indication of some annotation, location or configuration of underground services. 1:1000 scale presents the most information, other scales are provided for overview purposes and present information appropriate to each scale.

Recorded information of the gas network on Dial Before You Dig Online is updated on weekly basis.
Please note that it can take a number of weeks to process as-laid records for newly laid gas pipes. Watch out for signs of recently laid gas pipes and other underground services on site. The absence of gas pipes should never be taken as proof that the area in question is free of underground gas pipes.
