The Role
The Asset Strategy team within Asset Management is responsible for the strategic development of both the transmission and distribution gas network. Asset Strategy is responsible for identifying and defining the policies and strategies related to the serviceability and performance of the network. Reporting to the Asset Manager – Electrical, C&I, Metering and Biomethane, the Senior Asset Engineer – Electrical, C&I and Metering – Hydrogen Programme, will support the development and implementation of hydrogen readiness strategies across transmission and distribution assets. The role will provide engineering and asset management direction associated with hydrogen conversion for the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (E,C&I) and Metering assets, including future investment requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify, manage and lead the delivery of hydrogen suitability/readiness assessments and studies for the existing E, C and I and metering transmission and distribution network assets.
- Develop technical documentation and reports relevant to the lifecycle management of the E, C and I and metering assets, to support safety case submissions for hydrogen conversion.
- Support the development of hydrogen conversion strategies for existing gas infrastructure, identifying asset replacement, modification, upgrade and intervention requirements, accounting for developments in hydrogen regulations, standards, legislation and industry best practice.
- Develop the technical and investment justifications for the E, C & I and metering assets associated with hydrogen conversion requirements.
- Provide technical input into hydrogen demonstration projects, pilot programmes, innovation initiatives and research collaborations.
- Identify asset information and data requirements necessary to support evidence-based decision-making for hydrogen transition investments.
- Make active contribution and actively collaborate with the Hydrogen Programme team and its strategic objectives
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in keeping with the provisions of ISO55001.
- Use internal management systems (Ideagen; iQMS) appropriately and effectively to track and monitor risks and opportunities and corrective-actions/improvements. Support and participate in internal HSQ (quality/IMS) audits.
- Support GNI initiatives to enhance safety culture within the Asset Strategy department.
- Other duties as required from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Proven technical competence is essential - Engineering degree or demonstrable equivalent experience with at least 5 years of relevant experience in gas or utilities industry.
- Asset management experience would be an advantage.
- Experience with electrical, C&I and metering assets would be an advantage.
- Experience with hydrogen would be an advantage.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with the ability to generate innovative technical solutions as required.
- Proven ability to create and develop good working relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals, coupled with the ability to gain commitment from others.
- Provide coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others.
- Ability to demonstrate and promote proactive safety and sustainability leadership within Asset Management.
- Ability to generate innovative technical solutions as required.
- A good understanding of business operations and the commercial viability and impact of technical / professional decisions on the performance of the organisation.
- Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment and delivering desired results.
- Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others.
- Ability to translate strategic priorities into operational reality, demonstrating strong decision making skills.
