Gas Networks Ireland at the 2025 National Ploughing Championships

Come visit us at this year's Ploughing Championships!

Gas Networks Ireland will be attending this year's National Ploughing Championships. Come visit us at Stand 187, Row 8, Block 3.

Gas Networks Ireland is returning to the National Ploughing Championships after more than a decade, bringing a renewed focus on safety, innovation, and the future of energy. This year we are spotlighting several initiatives including:

Strengthening Relationships with Irish Landowners

Deepening engagement with landowners by promoting pipeline safety awareness and reinforcing the critical role they play in protecting gas infrastructure.

Promoting our “Dial Before You Dig” Safety Service

Encouraging the use of our free “Dial Before You Dig” service before any excavation work begins. This vital step helps safeguard lives, property, and infrastructure by preventing accidental damage to underground pipelines.

Showcasing our Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network programme

Raising awareness of biomethane as a renewable energy source and its role in Ireland’s journey to net zero by 2045. Highlighting the opportunities it presents for landowners — from sustainable farming practices to potential new income streams — and its impact on the future energy landscape.

Tattoo Parlour

At the heart of the stand is the “Dial Before You Dig” Tattoo Parlour, where visitors can choose from a range of striking temporary tattoo designs, the designs blend eye-catching artwork with Gas Networks Ireland’s core safety message: check before you break ground for underground gas pipes. As the activation promises: “The tattoo is temporary, but the message is permanent.”

Designed to create some talkability and awareness levels, the complimentary tattoos highlight the importance of the free Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) service, which helps farmers, landowners and contractors identify the exact location of underground gas pipelines before starting any excavation work. The Gas Networks Ireland service provides essential maps, guidance and support, making safe digging easier than ever.

Our network

Who we are

We operate Ireland's €3bn, 14,725km national gas network - one of the safest and most modern, renewables-ready gas networks in the world.

What we do

We secure Ireland's energy supply by managing critical energy infrastructure safely and reliably, 365 days a year.

A decarbonised gas network

At the heart of Ireland's clean energy future.

Biomethane is a carbon-neutral renewable gas produced from farm and food waste via anaerobic digestion.

First injected into the gas network in 2019, it helps cut emissions in hard-to-decarbonise sectors like transport, agriculture, industry, and power, while supporting the decarbonisation of the agri-food sector.

Pathway to Net Zero

Transitioning to a cleaner energy future.

Gas Networks Ireland is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2045. By transitioning to renewable gases such as biomethane and green hydrogen, we are supporting Ireland's climate targets by cutting emissions, boosting energy security, and powering a cleaner future.

A cleaner energy future starts locally.

Dial Before You Dig

To prevent gas pipelines from being damaged and to keep them safe, certain activities are restricted in the "wayleave" - the strip of land above, and either side of the gas pipeline.

There are six key safety steps to help keep you and the pipeline safe:

  1. Ploughing, tilling, and subsoiling up to 300mm deep, does not require a permit.
  2. Contact us before installing or repairing drainage, clearing ditches or carrying out any excavation.
  3. Call us before installing gates or straining posts within the wayleave.
  4. Do not alter ground cover or store materials on the wayleave.
  5. Pipelines are identified by marker posts, but posts can be damaged and do not assume the pipeline runs in a straight line between posts.
  6. Contact us before undertaking significant works in or around the wayleave, such as forestry planting, cultivating, harvesting or construction.

If you're planning works near or in the vicinity of a gas pipeline call us on 1800 42 77 47. Visit www.gasnetworks.ie/dial for more information.
