Project Crag

Project overview

Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for building, managing and maintaining an extensive network of gas infrastructure across the Republic of Ireland, including the provision of new connections.

Gas Networks Ireland has been contracted to connect a new customer to the national gas network at a site in Clondalkin, Co. Dublin. This involves the installation of a 1.6km transmission pipeline and the construction of an Above Ground Installation (AGI).

The project, which is now at advanced stages, features a trenchless crossing of Dublin’s Grand Canal (laying pipeline 5m underneath the riverbed) as well as a ‘hot-tap’ connection, meaning the new pipeline was connected to the existing live gas pipeline without disrupting supply.

Fingleton White are the lead designers on this project, with Murphy International Ltd completing the construction works and Terra Solutions engaged as a specialist subcontractor for the tunnelling works.
