Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €3bn, 14,758km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in Europe 

 

Over 720,000 Irish homes and businesses trust Ireland’s gas network to provide efficient and reliable energy to meet their heating, cooking, manufacturing and transport needs. 

 

The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy and almost 50% of the country’s electricity generation. 

 

Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045. Its “Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network” envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.

The Role

The Asset Management function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for optimising the return from the asset portfolio. Asset Management identify and develop investment programmes while achieving an optimal balance between customer requirements, asset efficiency and risk. Asset Management considers the financial and regulatory effects of the proposed investment strategies. 

The Asset Information Standards team within Asset Management is responsible for ensuring that appropriate information relating to GNI’s gas infrastructure assets is captured to support the end to end lifecycle asset management of the gas network. The Asset Information Standards team achieve this by developing detailed standards and guidance for what data should be collected and how it should be managed in GNI systems, outlining asset data quality requirements and providing a data analytics capability in effectively utilising asset data. The Asset Information Standards team develop the tools and techniques required for in-depth analysis of asset performance and condition and deliver key Decision Support Tools to support decision making across all asset lifecycle aspects

Reporting to the Asset Information Standards Lead, the Asset Information Standards Analyst will have responsibility for delivering value-driven change through business analysis in support of Asset Management stakeholders, implementing improvements to the GNI Asset Information systems and managing, analysing and reporting on asset data.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and improvement of the principals (processes, tools, methods) of Asset Information Standards required to support the GNI Asset Information System and promote ownership, understanding and data quality principles across the business.

  • Contribute to an Asset Data Requirements Strategy for GNI, setting out the methodology for Asset Information requirements gathering and ensuring the right balance is achieved between business benefits, costs and operational overheads of data gathering and data maintenance requirements.

  • Engage GNI stakeholders to ensure that Asset Information requirements are understood, documented, agreed and delivered. Consult with business leads to agree the priority of baseline and future change requirements, planning for timely and cost effective solution delivery.

  • Deliver Asset Information changes, including the documentation of taxonomy, design, testing, quality assurance and transition of system configuration changes for the relevant Asset Information management systems.

  • Understand impact on the asset register process for the proposed taxonomy and hierarchy, ensuring effective data capture process, during all phases of the asset lifecycle, to manage and extract the relevant asset data.

  • Provide key technical support to Asset Strategy in the continual improvement of Functional Specification and Requirements documents (FSR’s), to ensure that Asset Information requirements are aligned with the Asset Management System and Asset Information Strategy.

  • Assist in the implementation of asset information standards on GNI systems utilising existing data architecture solutions and systems where possible, identifying new functionality requirements and data architectural solution needs to the DCC and IT teams for delivery as required.

  • Proactively identify, implement and support mechanisms for improving GNI data.

  • Design new asset information reports including detailed and summary data system

    reporting for various stakeholders

  • Build and develop strong partnerships with the Data Competency Centre and IT and act as a point of contact for new GNI gas infrastructure asset data requirements across all data types. 

  • Represent Asset Management in all relevant Change Management Board monthly meetings.

  • Contribute to the development of Asset Data Capture tools (ASDAC) to enable key business functions to reliably and consistently record asset data to meet Asset Register requirements.

  • Act as key point of communication for the Asset Information System to relevant cross functional stakeholders, for Asset Information improvements and initiatives.

  • Contribute to Asset Information knowledge and competence development for the Asset Information Standards team.

  • Other duties as required from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant third level qualification with at least 3 years relevant experience.Excellent analytical skills coupled with the ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements to propose and implement solutions.

  • Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others to meet business needs and expectations.

  • A strong understanding of business operations and the commercial viability and impact of technical decisions on the performance of the Asset Management System.

  • Previous experience of initiating and maintaining strategic relationships both internally and externally, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals.

  • Experience in leading and mentoring cross-functional teams, while empowering through delegation of decision making and accountability.

  • Driver of high standards for individual, team and organizational accomplishment and delivering desired results.

  • Knowledge and experience of current GNI Asset information System landscape & business processes would be beneficial.

  • Highly proficient in Maximo WAM-FM systems or equivalent Asset Register or CMMS system, Business Objects, PowerBI, SQL and MS Excel.

  • Knowledge of GNI systems GIS, IUS, GTMS and SCADA an advantage.
