Decarbonising Irish manufacturing

Decarbonising high-heat industries remains a complex challenge in Ireland’s energy landscape. Manufacturing companies that rely on extremely high temperatures - such as brick production - need solutions that can lower emissions without impacting product quality, reliability or production capacity.

Biomethane, can be delivered through the existing gas network and used with no changes required to equipment or operations. This makes it a powerful and practical option for customers that cannot efficiently electrify their thermal processes.

Facilitating innovation

Gas Networks Ireland’s Customer Solutions team was established to help our largest customers progress their decarbonisation ambitions through tailored technical support and collaborative innovation.

Working closely with Flogas Ireland who supplied the biomethane, the team helped deliver a pioneering biomethane pilot that enables Kingscourt Brick to produce Ireland’s first low‑carbon BioBrick. This partnership showcases how coordinated industry efforts can accelerate meaningful, scalable energy transition solutions for Irish businesses.
