Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €3bn, 14,725km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world.

The gas network is the cornerstone of Ireland’s energy system, securely supplying more than 30% of Ireland’s total energy and over 40% of the country’s electricity generation.
Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045. Its “Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network” envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.

Gas Networks Ireland is now seeking to appoint a Fleet Manager.
The Role:
The Facilities function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for delivering a highly effective Facilities Management Service for Gas Networks Ireland including managing all aspects of the company’s property portfolio, ensuring statutory & maintenance needs of the estate are met, managing the security of all facilities and the management of the company’s fleet. Facilities will provide these services across Gas Networks Ireland, ensuring a consistent and effective facilities service is provided.
The Transport team will be responsible for the delivery of fleet management services to Gas Networks Ireland.
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Fleet Manager is a key member of the facilities team, responsible for the delivery of fleet management services and ongoing facilities business partnering to Gas Networks Ireland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The key duties and responsibilities for this role include:
Manage and maintain the Gas Networks Ireland fleet, ensuring delivery of fleet management services within budget
Day to day facilities business partnering and ongoing data analysis of facilities issues and opportunities
Ensure delivery (including budget and programme) of the vehicle replacement CAPEX programmes in Gas Networks Ireland. This work includes gaining approval at contract approval committees
Develop a strategy to CVD Compliance for GNI
Work with Operational teams in Gas Networks Ireland to ensure that the size of the fleet and vehicle types meet the demands of the business
Procurement and quality assurance / audits of fleet including a replacement strategy in line with business needs. Co-ordinate the rollout and handover of new vehicles
Drive a strong behavioural culture of continuous improvement regarding processes and procedures as well as implementing new technologies.
Co-ordinate the delivery of all operational and maintenance activities including servicing, repairs, CVRT/NCT tests and payment of Road Fund Licence (Road Tax)
Act as key interface with Fleet Management Supplier in relation to planned, reactive and emergent fleet activities to ensure provision of a safe, effective and efficient service
Act as the escalation point for any technical/driver/customer related issues
Develop, maintain and standardise vehicle design standards / specifications across Gas Networks Ireland and ensure compliance with all statutory and legislative requirements
Manage fuel/energy reduction programme, including driver training, vehicle replacement projects, and ongoing fleet management improvements
Manage fleet in line with Gas Networks Ireland HSQE requirements including assisting with the development of driver training programmes
Participate in the on-call rota for Facilities if required
Rotate to other roles if required
Other duties as required from time to time
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Proven technical competence is essential – Degree qualified or other relevant qualification desirable with at least 5 years relevant experience.
Knowledge of fleet management systems desirable
Strong understanding of commercial and contractual management and of service delivery
Knowledge of Road Traffic Acts, Health & Safety legislation etc that apply to work related driving
Strong communication, report writing and document preparation skills
Extensive experience in building and maintaining relationships (both internal and external) with excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
Facilitating the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace.
Strong commercial focus while keeping financial perspective in the forefront.
Ability to translate strategic priorities into operational reality, demonstrating strong decision-making skills.
Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment and delivering desired results.
