Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains Ireland’s €3bn, 14,758km national gas network, which is considered one of the safest and most modern renewables-ready gas networks in the world.

Gas Networks Ireland is aiming to deliver a repurposed, resized and fully decarbonised gas network by 2045. Its “Pathway to a Net Zero Carbon Network” envisions transforming the existing gas network into two separate systems carrying 100% renewable gas, one dedicated to biomethane and the other to green hydrogen, with the potential to carry approximately 30% biomethane and 70% green hydrogen, as well as offering significant long term energy export opportunities.

The Role
The Data Competency Centre (DCC) delivers centralised oversight of activities which manage, measure and improve GNI’s data. The DCC advise on the governance, design and management of data and monitor resulting data quality. Within the DCC, GNI data management policies and procedures are created, data architecture is managed, information security matters are overseen, and business intelligence and data analytics initiatives are prioritised and delivered in line with enterprise-wide needs.
The Information Security Lead provides enterprise-wide leadership, oversight and direction for information security across Gas Networks Ireland. Reporting to the Information Security Manager, the role is responsible for advising on, governing and monitoring the protection of GNI’s information assets, ensuring that information security is embedded into business operations, projects, procurement, and third party‑ engagements.
This role acts as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, inputting to information security strategy, influencing stakeholders, and assuring that appropriate controls, risk management practices and governance arrangements are in place to protect customer, personal and commercially sensitive information across GNI and its service providers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure BAU InfoSec business processes operate reliably and securely
- Ensure continuous coverage and oversight of Infosec and phishing inboxes.
- Coordinate with the IT teams in the response to information security incidents and breaches, ensuring adherence to defined playbooks and protocols.
- Support the provision of information security training and awareness for employees, contractors and relevant third parties in line with established policies and procedures, including phishing simulation programs to test user awareness.
- Lead the release of information security communications to employees, contractors and third parties on a regular basis.
- Lead the delivery of cyber month activities annually.
- Oversee monthly Information Security KPIs and metrics, ensuring performance is monitored and remedial actions are identified and implemented.
- Build strong working relationships with all Business Services teams and support functions.
Protect Information Assets & Manage Risk
- Oversee the protection of business information assets through the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of information security risks, including emerging regulatory, technology and threat-based‑ risks.
- Lead the completion of information security assurance reviews to identify risks facing the organisation.
- Lead and oversee Third Party‑ Risk Assessments Managed Service, including risk identification, tracking and remediation oversight.
- Lead and oversee the Data Loss Managed Service including identification, follow-ups and refining data loss prevention rules
- Assess, monitor and control risks arising from the transfer of information to and from external organisations, including service providers.
- Provide direction and subject matter expertise to the business in relation to information security compliance.
- Support the Information Security function in the implementation of NISD related‑ controls, where applicable.
Lead, Improve & Embed Security by Design
- Align the Information Security function with business requirements through input into the strategic security design of new projects, and initiatives.
- Provide information security risk assessments to inflight and emerging projects to support secure delivery and informed decision‑ making‑.
- Lead programmes to ensure business units are aligned with and operate in accordance with information security policies and standards.
- Lead the management and ongoing development of the Information Security Policies and Procedures
- Lead the information security input into procurement and tender processes, including defining information security requirements, participating in tender evaluation and scoring, and driving improvements to procurement processes to ensure consistent, transparent and risk based decision‑ ‑making
- Drive continuous improvement in information security practices by embedding lessons learned from assurance activities, incidents and emerging risk trends.

Knowledge,Skills and Experience
Degree or equivalent in Information Security, Information Systems, IT, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) with 5 years’ relevant experience in similar roles, ideally in a regulated or utility environment.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to generate innovative business solutions as required
Previous experience with initiating and maintaining strategic relationships both internally and externally, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals and garner support
Proven track record in leading multi-located (resource augmented) teams, through coaching and development while empowering staff through delegation of decision making and accountability.
You will be a strong advocate for change and constantly seeking out opportunities to create efficiencies and improvements.
Proven track record in dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others
Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment and delivering desired results.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Microsoft Visio experience is essential
Excellent IT skills, i.e. Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
